Trish Graham is an innovative beaded jewellery artist living in Accra, Ghana.
Many of the beads Trish creates with are locally produced, often from recycled materials.
Some of the beads are very old, drawing on Africa’s rich tradition of bead making,
trading and creativity.
"I find it inspiring and exciting to be a part of an ancient living tradition,"
Trish says.
"I receive great joy in creating unique designs from the colour and beauty around
me. I love going to the bead markets and bartering with the women for what I need,
experiencing the colours, smells and sounds which are always inspiring. I hope that
some of this life is reflected in my work."
Trish went to West Africa some twelve years ago as a micro-finance advisor for CUSO,
a Canadian development agency. She fell in love with the warmth and creativity of
the people and has made her home in Accra for, as Trish so warmly says, "Ten
good years."
