Gallery Talk, 16 July 2010
"Surprised and thrilled," are the only words I can think of to describe the turn-out of enthusiastic quilters and fabric-lovers who attended my talk and gallery tour of the Under African Skies exhibition at the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York.
Over the years I've talked to many groups around the country about my passion for African textiles. But this was really special, taking you on a tour of some of the quilts my friends have made using these wonderful fabrics, plus telling the story of the fabrics themselves and some of their makers in Africa.
Thanks to all who came along. And thank you also to everyone at the Quilt Museum and Gallery - the exhibition looks just fabulous!
Also, don't miss the main exhibition, Sewing in Wartime, which features Canadian Red Cross quilts and other patch-worked and quilted pieces from Britain's era of austerity. Well worth a visit!
