World Textile Day III - 2011
An exhibition of print, pattern and design
Thanks to a great turn out of enthusiastic textile lovers, our annual World Textile Day hosted by The Quilt Association at the Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes, Wales was a fantastic success for the third successive year.
Both the gallery and shopping bazaar were humming all day. It was standing room only for the morning talk by Magie Relph and Diane Gaffney all about Java batik and African wax print. The afternoon demonstration of Javanese and African fabric printing drew more creative textile enthusiasts eager to see how these wonderful fabrics are made.
Thank you to eveyone who made the day so enjoyable: Doreen, Jeff and the team from the Quilt Associaton, Jim and Diane's son Seamus for his hard work, and everyone who joined in our celebration of world textiles.

World Textile Day II - 2010
You are what you wear! Where ever you go in the world, textiles and clothing are inextricably linked.
At World Textile Day 2010, hosted by the Quilt Association of Wales, we put on an extensive display of costumes from around the world. Visitors experienced an insight into how a different cultures use textiles to dress, express and, above all, impress.
Renowned textile scholar John Gillow's morning lecture - 'Costume In Africa and Asia' - was packed out, as John showed and discussed many wonderful pieces from his extensive collection.
In the afternoon, there was a change of pace, with Kimono and Japanese textile expert Susan Briscoe discussing - and demonstrating! - 'Japanese Kimono Everyday Wear'.

World Textile Day I - 2009
Put a handful of dedicated world textile experts and traders together in the bar at the Knitting and Stitching Show and what do you get? World Textile Day.
That's exactly what happened when Magie Relph and Bob Irwin (aka The African Fabric Shop) sat down over a beer with Jim and Diane Gaffney (aka Textile Techniques).
'Know what we need,' asked Jim. Then he answered his own question: 'A World Textile Day in... let me see... how about Wales?'
'Why not,' we said. We had no idea how popular our modest little proposal would turn out.
When we opened the doors at the Minerva Arts Centre, home of the Quilt Association, the gallery was empty except for our carefully selected displays of world textiles and the empty chairs in the lecture area waiting for bums.
By 11am the gallery was packed, we had to find more chairs for the talk and the Quilt Association tea ladies were struggling to keep up with thirsty demand. People came from far and wide: Wales, Shropshire, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol. One enthusiast drove all the way from Lincoln! When we closed the doors at 5pm, we were all exhausted from the general buzz of enthusiasm.
'Should we do it again,' asked Jim.
'No brainer,' we chorused. World Textile Day was well and truly born.
