Vintage Akunitan cloth

In the Ashanti culture of Ghana, these very large Akunitan cloths are worn as wrappers by men on formal occasions.

Akunitan means 'cloth of the great'.

Black-dyed imported woollen blanket, machine embroidered in chain stitch with animal and symbolic motifs.

Though this cloth is at least 25 years old, it is in excellent condition, with small repairs made to minor tears in two corners of the cloth.
