Undyed African Textiles

Handmade in Basse, The Gambia. Handwoven undyed and unbleached tree cotton strips sewn into a blanket. Closely woven, thick and very soft. 

Tree cotton grows on the 'silk cotton' tree, part of the kapok family. Because of its short staple, it is difficult to spin into a yarn. For this reason, this cloth is a blend of tree cotton weft with cotton warp.
